About the club
Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club was a foundation club of the inaugural 1908 NSWRFL premiership. Originally representing the area now known as the inner west, Wests became semi-nomadic moving from Ashfield further afield to Lidcombe in the 1960s and then further west still to Campbelltown in 1987. The team won four premierships, the last in 1952, before the NSWRL tried to eject the Magpies in the 1980s. Wests fought back and managed to secure their place in the competition. The Magpies and Tigers formed a joint venture at the end of 1999 to create the Wests Tigers, winners of the 2005 NRL premiership. Today, the team competes in the NSW Cup, as the feeder team to the Tigers.
