About the club
In 1920, three clubs switched from the financially crippled Queensland Rugby Union over to rugby league: Past Christian Brothers, University and Past Grammars. Like University, Brothers avoided a districting requirement for their players in 1933. Instead players had to have been pupils at a Marist or Christian Brothers school. Regular premierships flowed from their first in 1926 with their eighth coming in 1968. Brothers played out of Corbett Park on the Kedron Brook in The Grange after purchasing the freehold in 1963. Brothers continued as a Brisbane rugby league institution, winning the last pre-Broncos BRL premiership in 1987, but were not able to navigate the increasing commercial pressures on the sport, eventually folding in the mid-2000s after several attempts at joining the Queensland Cup. Today, nothing remains of the old Brothers establishment, with the leagues club having been passed between several sporting organisations, including a stint as the Crushers Leagues Club, before being demolished to make way for townhouses. Despite this, Past Brothers clubs still operate in a massive network across Queensland and New South Wales.
